Prince Albert II of Monaco Wedding

Charlene Wittstock now known as Princess Charlene de Monaco rose to fame as a South African Olympic swimmer, but soared to international celebrity as the fiancee of Prince Albert II of Monaco. She was born on January 25, 1978, in Zimbabwe’s second city of Bulawayo. A decade later the Wittstocks moved to South Africa where they settled in the town of Benoni, in the outer reaches of Johannesburg’s suburbs.

Now she will officially join the Grimaldi dynasty, who have run the tiny but wealthy principality for seven centuries. The religious ceremony on Saturday took place in the palace courtyard with 3500 guests including designers Karl Lagerfeld and Giorgio Armani (who designed the wedding gown) and Olympian gymnast Nadia Comaneci.

According to USA Today, supermodels such as Naomi Campbell and Karolina Kurkova planned to attend, as well as the richest man in France, Bernard Arnault, who is the CEO of LVMH. Also in attendance was Italian designer Roberto Cavalli, whose yacht often plies the waters off Monaco and the Cote d’Azur. Charlene’s Giorgio Armani dress is a true display of elegance and utmost sophistication.
